To train professional dietitians who are committed to ethical values, scientific principles, and international standards, who are aware of their duties and responsibilities to their country in line with Atatürk's Principles and Revolutions, who possess a universal mindset and cultural sensitivity, who are inquisitive, who embrace lifelong learning, who effectively utilize their leadership and decision-making skills, and who can contribute to the public good through research, education, and service, with the aim of protecting and improving the health of individuals, families, and communities through adequate and balanced nutrition, and who are capable of improving their quality of life.
General Information
The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics was established by the decision of the Council of Higher Education dated 03.02.2012 and numbered 5765; however, student enrollment has not yet taken place. The primary aim of the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics is to train professionals in the field who will conduct scientific research and practical applications in various areas, including assessing the nutritional status of the society, identifying and evaluating nutritional problems and priorities, developing and implementing solutions to improve the country’s overall nutrition level, determining and guiding national food and nutrition plans and policies, performing food analyses, determining the nutritional requirements of different age groups, designing and applying disease-specific diets, and managing and organizing food services in institutions providing collective catering. Graduates of the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics are awarded the title of “Dietitian”. Dietitians are classified within the health sector according to the international occupational classification. They play a critical role in combating major contemporary health problems such as obesity, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, digestive system disorders, cancer, and many other conditions. Dietitians can serve in preventive, therapeutic, and rehabilitative health services at every level and in almost every unit. In addition to academic roles, dietitians work in inpatient treatment institutions, childcare and elderly care centers, maternal and child health centers, wellness and recreational clubs, food factories, collective catering establishments, sports health centers, private nutrition and diet centers, the food and pharmaceutical industries, and in the preparation and implementation of nutrition programs in print and visual media.
